I was told by some guy to use high octane on my mt that it was better I use regular gas does he know what is he talking about?

I recently installed http://www.davesmotors.com/s.nl/c.885035/n.1/it.A/id.1077/.f Into my stock MT engine. Have not run it yet because I noticed part of this gasket covered a small area of the Exhaust transfer port. Is this normal? Does it need trimmed? Or did I get the wrong gasket?

So I got my gasket kit from ddm today!! My question is do I need to use a silicon sealer for gaskets like I use on cars?? If I do what's the best one?
