If you take the gear cover off and don't see pins sticking through the centre of the gears you have square drive.

Someone said the new DRs have pin drive.

Thought I would update where I am at with my buggy.

Had a great day out bashing with my buddys 1/5 brushless buggy.

Unfortunately I had an exhaust bolt break off inside the head. I tried to extract it but it would not budge being locked in with Loctite Red. Even heating the crap out of it with a blow torch.

I ended up cracking the head :/

I decided since I had the motor out, and since its basically winter here in Michigan, I would clean the crap out of her and get a few upgrades ordered.

Here she is after bashing at my buddies.

I had the same experience... total PITA..... I went so far as to install the brass fittings, which made it even more of a PITA. I got it to work, but dang.... I haven't had an issue since though. It does want to burp a bit when you are pressurizing your fuel lines though. Just a warning.

Got my Outerwears crankcase cover on. I used a rubber band to pull it up tight as it was rubbing on the drive shaft. I wonder how the rubber band will hold up to the heat.

I think a small piece of metal wire would be much better, given the heat.

I have the belt drive and it's great.

Much quieter - less power loss and no broken gears.

I would imagine you could get belts at the local machine shop or from the online seller.

AVIDRCWhen its time to get spare and or upgrade your bearings.

This thread is something I was looking for and answers many of my questions which most noobs into 1/5 scale come up with.

In fact this thread shall be a sticky, definitely added to my favs.

I am curious; How much did the cylinder head run you?

How is the serpentine belt holding on since its installation?
Thanks buddy. Like Phill said the belt is great.

I got the head for $68 shipped. Only place i could find it in stock was Amazon.

Belt is holding up great. Still on the original. I do have 3 backups I purchased as well. They can be purchased here:
