My MT Build Almost Finished

I am just about finished with my Rampage MT build. I thought I would share some of my upgrades and mods I did. I noticed a lot of people here went with a dual steering servo upgrade, so I decided to come up with my version. Decided the stock roll cage was useless, so I new I would have to make a new one of those. I made some custom shock towers so I could have a rear exit exhaust and a buggy body that could go through the front shock tower so it didn’t need to be cut. I also installed an alloy gear carrier, alloy center diff support, Ramtech C&D gears, alloy front chassis support, front CVD’s, and the Rampage upgrade kit. I didn’t do anything with the shocks, I will deal with those when or if I break them. Now all I need to do is test a few pipes and get the new MCD truck body when it becomes available.

Thanks Moo. Yep, both the center diff mount and the gear carrier had some slop in it. It was very minimal, but it sure wasn’t a tight fit. I wrapped some tape on the outside of the bearings which helped with the fit.

I am going to post some more pics of the custom shock towers and roll cage next.

Hey that's looking really good! Are those Hpi sfl-mg2 servos, you will have some powerful steering! Keep up the excellent work!

Thanks guys for all your kind words. Gas Jocky, I got the servos off eBay and was told they were HPI servos, but I am not sure. They are all metal gears, including the final gear and are suppose to have 310oz at .16 sec.

No, I don’t have 4130 so I ended up using some 5/16in rod. I had some let over from the roll cage I made for my Titan. My Titan’s roll cage has held up really well, so I figured why mess with a good thing. Here is the roll cage I made for my Titan. View attachment 698 View attachment 699 View attachment 700

Thanks kryptonite. The pipe is actually two pipes in one. It is a Samba Marder pipe with a short header form a Samba MCD Rally pipe. It is like the one Samba released for the HPI Baja, which I have read didn’t perform all that well. I will hopefully get a chance to try it this weekend.

i think the pipe looks great. makes up for its lack of performance. i remember those pipes. they arent bad, kinda good really. but not as good as a snail pipe with a larger chamber.. im running an X-can just couse i like the look. whats the next plan with that rig?

Not much left to do, I want to make an alloy battery box and get the new MCD MT body once they are available. After I run it I might try another pipe, depending on how well the Samba performs. But like you said, it does look good. I do have an X-Can on the way so if the Samba doesn’t work out I will probably give it a try. Are you happy with the performance of the X-Can?

ive had an X-can before and i liked it. pretty loud and a little better low end. i havent tried my new X-can on the ramp yet. just got it mounted the other day. i don't remember if your running a headkit or not? i found the X-can is better with more noticable power increase on the 23 verse the 28.5. only noticed a small power increase on the 28.5

I was able to try out the Rampage MT for the first time this past weekend. I don’t particularly care for the stock body so I ran an FS Truggy body I had used on my Titan. Unfortunately it isn’t the best quality which is a shame because it fit nice and I think looked really good. The Truck did rather well for its first time out. The pipe performed okay, it sounded good and even though it was fairly protected I managed to ding it all up. I put the roll cage to the test and it performed excellent, really helped stiffen up the chassis. The shocks were the only thing I didn’t touch and that was a mistake. I lost the shock oil in two shocks and the c-clips failed in the other two. Shocks aren’t my favorite things to work on, but I have no choice but to fix them now. Overall I am pleased with the truck so far.

Enjoy the video and just past the 3min mark you will she I almost take out my wife. Her reflexes must be getting better, she hasn’t gotten hit I a while.

Here are some pics with the Truggy body. I think it looks real good on the Rampage, to bad the quality isn’t there. View attachment 807 View attachment 808 View attachment 809 View attachment 810
