a while back i posted that i was using xq power servos. i didn't want to say much until i had actually used them, encountered any trouble w/them & had seen how customer service was. i purchased my xq's from redwingrc.com & i like these xq servos a lot. redwing rc offers a 1 year warranty on their xq servos. i will not buy hitec's. it's just my choice. i don't do the mainstream thing when i buy stuff just bc it's what so & so or everyone else uses. if i did, i wouldn't own a redcat lol.
i bought the xq 4013 for throttle/brakes. it's price is $39.00 & it's specs are pretty good & very comparable to hitec & savox. the throttle/brake horn fit onto the servo perfectly so all i had to do was pop the horn off the stock servo, put it onto the xq , set the endpoints & screw in the horn screw.
xq 4013:
•Gear Style: Futaba Arms
•Modulation: Coreless Digital
•Gear Type: Titanium
•Weight: 2oz (59g)
•Size: 40x20x39mm
•Torque: 6v -200.1oz-in (14.5kg-cm), 4.8v - 173.6oz/in (12.5 kg/cm)
•Speed: 6v - .11 sec, 4.8v - .13 sec
for my steering i bought an xq 5040. it is also very comperable to hitec & savox. the price is $59.99. it also came w/an aluminum arm which is very nice. i did have to drill out the hole to fit the steering connector but that was no biggie at all. it was done in less than 30seconds.
xq 5040:
•Gear Style: Futaba Arms
•Gear Type: Metal
•Weight: 6.26oz (177.5g)
•Size: 60x30x59mm
•Torque: 7.2v - 550 oz-in (39.8kg-cm), 6v - 465oz/in (33.5kg/cm)
•Speed: 7.2v - .18 sec, 6v - .20 sec
i personaly don't see going to lipo's anytime soon. i don't have a vast collection of rc cars. just mine & my son's 2 xt's so i'm fine wth 6v set up.
i ordered 2 of each servo, 4 servos total. i had one bum 5040 right outta the box. i called redwing & spoke to heather. she is sending me a return shipping label & when she recieves the bad servo she is sending me a brand new one w/no shipping charge. free shipping both ways, that is awesome.
my xt which has the good servo reacts & turns a lot faster than my son's xt which has the oem redcat servo in it til i get the new one in to replace it. as for fit, the throttle servo fit like a glove. no holes to cut or drill. nothing. even the servo horn screw fit. the steering servo 5040 fit like a glove too but i had to drill one new hole in the mounting tab to th left. i also took some needle nose pliers & pulled the raised lip off to make the servo fit flush which was super easy. the mounting tabs on the right already have 4 holes drilled into them from redcat on my xt's so there was no other drilling required. the 5040 has closer hole spacing like the hitec's do. so,no matter if you go w/these or hitec, you still have to do what i did to make it fit & install.
i wanted to see what other alternatives are out there. i did a lot of research & there are a lot of servo brands out there but nothing worth mentioning IMO but these. there are power hd servos which are supposedly decent but they don't have the power these do. for the price, the specs, the warranty & the customer service i am glad i tried these. the shipping speed & charge s also on par w/say dave's discount motors. $6.50 shipping charge & next day shipping.
