Im starting this thread a little premature, I know ;)

Ordering my XBe and a few other cars for some buddies here in a few hours. I can't wait for it to arrive!

I already have a Castle Creations 1717 1y in hand and will be trying my best to set it up for at least 35minutes of runtime. If that involves custom packs, custom battery mounts, then so be it. I intend on racing it in the 4wd buggy class this year at LargescaleRC's Powerjam in June. My goal is to be able to run at least 35min in race conditions without fear of cooking the motor, esc or batteries. Its going to take some trial and error, so please wish me luck :D

35 minutes should be attainable with duel 8s 5500's or better yet 6500's in parallel. At least that's what I'm going to run.

Hobbycity has some 6s 8000mah batteries, I may use those. That should definitely get me close :D

Im gonna keep it on 6s because I don't feel like dropping another $275 on the mamba XL.

Was that with the stock motor??
Ya, just now got my 1717 back from Castle so it wasnt installed yet. Im gonna shoot some video of it all stock this weekend with my gas XB that has a prototype belt drive and Jetpro. I wonder what would win in a straight line drag race?

I think you are going to need some kind of cooling on your motor for a 35 min run. The stock heat sink can't be removed.

Maybe another fan can be wired to the one on the ESC, or a body mod to ram air on the motor somehow.

Im definitely gonna open the body up a little and put a fan on the 1717.

This will work pretty good.. http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=9131
open the heatsink up a bit so that it will snap over the larger diamter of the 1717 motor.
I appreciate the link but i don't know if that'd be able to be modded to fit. The 1717s diameter is around 50mm.

ya, 35.55mm =1.400. The 1717 is 1.812 at base of the fin's. But still, the fan would work if you removed the heatsink and mounted it on the motor.

It's actually pretty effective, 15-20 degrees (f). I bought 5 of them awhile back, and used them on a 1515, 1521, 1717 and a medussa 36-80-1600 motor. I powered the fan off of the bec most of the time, but also tried it on 2s power (roughly 8.4v) and it simply blows more air and cools things down more. I'm thinking of trying it on 3s for my XB-E (just ordered) i've already made a connector that will branch off into the balance tap on each battery.
