HELP - carb gasket question

I took off the plastic carb mounting block, the brown one that mounts to the engine, and the carb mounts to it. I noticed a small, factory made, hole on the lower half of the intake, in the center, to the left of the lower mounting bolt hole. This hole has a matching passage way through the mounting block that lines up with a small hole on the carb. The small carb hole is centered below the buterfly. It doesn't look like it goes anywhere. What is this hole? Will it hurt anything if I get RTV gasket maker in it?

There isn't much room below the gasket to spread a bead of gasket maker around.

Rob,

Do you put RTV on all of your gaskets or just the intake side? If you do put RTV on do you put it on both sides of a gasket or just one side?

RTV only, as in no gasket will be a bad idea. The machined surfaces aren't tight enough for that.

That hole is some kind of pressure release I think. When the piston comes down, that pressure has to go somewhere.

I will give it a try, eliminating any possible air leaks should be a top priority to keep you from going crazy getting cranked!

I have access to some high temp RTV from Auto Zone.

The kind I have is made by Permatex.

Assuming that the RTV gasket maker is too thin the engine will just run bad right? Presumably it won't hurt it unless it is run like that for a long time? What would happen if a dried peice was sucked into the engine? It is pretty soft even when dried.

You aren't trying to form a gasket like in a car application. You are helping the paper gasket to stay sealed. A light application is all thats needed.
