I'm currently running the Castle 1717 w/Mamba XL configuration so I took a few measurements. To confirm what Obeast indicated there is very little clearance. See attached. Between the motor and the chassis plate 1.12mm Also measured from the motor mounting plate to the front steering pillar and it's 107.66mm.I have a Leopard 5692 that should arrive Friday if the UPS gods are kind to me. I will keep you posted on how I overcome the install hurdles. The plate of 7075-T6 that has been collecting dust on my work bench may be pressed into play very soon.VS1

Well look what the UPS man just delivered to my door...a Leopard! Now the the task at hand is to make it fit. Once I have a chance to work on the mount I'll start a thread to track my progress. Here are few pictures for comparison with the stock motor /Castle 1717 /Leopard 1090Kv.

I'm currently running a T10 when running 6s and I have no temp issues running thru a full pack of 5800s. When I'm running 8s I put in the T8. Picked them up for Kershaw Designs along with the bore reducer as they are 8mm. Wasn't sure what I would be running with the Leopard so I picked up some spares T8-T15, T18 & T20 because they were on clearance ;-)

Keep an eye on that bore reducer, mine only lasted about 5 minutes before allowing the pinion to move.

Well ran my 1350kv Teken and i tried from 1 to 8 settings on the program card. 1 to 4 setting i got a bad cog timming to low i suppose. 5 is the stock setting and that seems to work well, I did try it maxed out but, temp could be an issue so, I left it at 5 and was at about 120F. more testing to come...

I have be working on pinion gears in the 8 and 9 tooth range. I have concluded that the gears provided by Redcat are bastard gears and can't be duplicated smaller than 10. If you go below 10, the gears will bind. The Kershaw gears are a standard gear design and although they will work they will self destruct with time.

The only solution to the gear ratio problem is to increase the main gear diameter. This will require a new motor mount that is taller. Good thing, now we can squeeze in a larger diameter motor.

The only problem that can't be solved easly is the length of the motor. So we have to stick with motors less that 105 MM long.

I have plans to make a larger motor mount that will fit any motor less than 105 long, with a main gear of 46 teeth. With pinion gears from 10+ availabale a much wider range of gear ratio's will be achieved

So, a little help here. I need to know how fast you want to go to make sure the new motor mount will cover as many gear ratio's as possible. do we need a 52 tooth main gear?

XBE motor

hey guys, so from what i am reading, the mamba XL 1717 is the best boost for your buck with minor modifications...is there a motor that will give me similar performance with out any mods at all? Im loving the speed out of the box, but if it could go faster, would love it even more...also is there a servo that will fit stock but give me better/faster turns?

Not ready to start drilling and moding my new toy just yet, but would like a faster toy.

Ran mine with GPS today on stock batteries and it 31.5 mph on level pavement. With bigger batteries got to 33.5 mph. Three passes on a warmed up motor and battery. This car is so big and drives so well it doesn't seem to moving that fast. Decided to wait on the 1717 for Ol'Fart to get his motor mount set finished so I have a wider selection. Thanks on the tip Obeast.

Just ordered my XBE and a Castle 1717. Does anyone know if the motor fits right in without modification? Can I use the stock ESC?
Anyone have any good battery suggestions?
