Have a question regarding chimera 30cc clutch upgrade from 6000 to 8000 is there a big differance in power an doin this upgrade is gearing change nessasary? Seen sum clutchs on a few websites also are they universal I mean will an hpi or zenoah compatible clutch work on stock redcat 30cc engine? Im new to these engines from nitro, total rookie lol.

The difference is simply when the clutch engages. 9500 engages higher than 8000 and 8000 higher than 6500 and so on. You you will have more power and better responsiveness off the line, but it will be more difficult to control, and you will wear out the clutch shoes much faster.

the 9500 spring are used by racers. an overall good spring is 8000.

the HPI clutch and spring do fit the CY (Fuelie) engines which is the one found on your stock 30cc engine.

all in all, want more power? do the following:

get Lightened flywheel

get a CPI/Jet pro Pipe

Upgrade your carb to WT990

upgrade you filter to DT1

and upgrade your clutch with a 8000 rpm spring. (lighter) http://www.davesmotors.com/15448CYHighResponseClutchShoeSpringSet8K

The 8K will make a great difference off the line the engine will have to rev higher before the clutch engages which is what gives you more power off the line. No gear changing is needed. If your clutch shoes are still some good you can just get an 8K spring (the red one) and install it on the clutch shoes you already have.

For the most part yes. They are all 54mm clutches. There is a hardware difference between Zen and CY/HY. The Zen clutch has smaller mounting holes so the bolts from an HY or CY won't fit. If the clutch comes with mounting hardware they are universal.

I've been curious if the lightened clutch shoes are more prone to breaking due to the mass that was taken away? Links to lightened flywheels?

Is there a differance in performance if I just swap out the spring vs changing to clutch shoes and spring??

I would not think so, there are a lot of guys on here that just change the spring, I have always changed the complete clutch so I cannot say for sure

Nope. You will get the same results. The springs can be a pain to install for some. Not too hard with a little technique.

It's less rotating mass. Same theory as a lightened flywheel, diff cups, wheels etc.

Lightened shoes will start to grab a higher rpm, as they have less mass.

I use to be big into BMX racing and the rule of thumb was shaving ounces off any rotating mass was almost the equivalent of shaving lbs off the frame. I also raced lawn mowers (laugh it up lol) but you could immediately pick out the guys who had aluminum fly wheels. Their engines would rev up MUCH fast than one with a stock.

I'm glad a read this thread. I didn't know someone made a light weight fly wheel. I just too just ordered a 8k clutch and have been wondering what else we can do for performance. (already have carb/filter/pipe).

Next step would be a ported engine or even a reed case engine.

check DDM, they have 2 diferent lightened flywheels. I beleive one comes from the Company of the Engine maker: http://www.davesmotors.com/s.nl/it.A/id.1361/.f

and the other is Aftermarket (lighter than the latter) from the maker Darksoul:

on the other hand, check the 9500 rpm spring, primarily designed for racers:

http://www.davesmotors.com/gt220a.html

and I don't know if you only ordered the standalone 8k spring or if you ordered it as a combo with the lightened clutch. if you didn't, check below:

the clutch is lighter than the stock. put this with the 9500 rpm spring and GG

Wow thanks for the links! Think I might snatch up that aftermarket light weight flywheel. I did order the clutch with spring installed.
