hey Z, so i wanted to do the mill first so bad. but thought it was better to get the bugs out before doing any torche mods. thats just couse my wife has my budget on "lock-down". so im at the end of my third tank. i ordered the upgrade kit with my rig. it comes with (you may know already) extra lower suspension arms, upgraded front and rear diff, upgraded drive cups(8!), upgraded gear plate, vented clutch, longer shock springs(stock are way short)and a hole list of other usefull goodies. i broke a front suspension arm and stearing mount on my first outing so i replaced ALL those parts with alum as its a week point if you plan on getting off the ground. i didnt put the upgraded diff in at first but by the end of the 3rd tank my rear diff "exploded" under light conditions(with stock mill). so i just put the new stuff in. the upgrade consists of thicker pins and all the gears and drive cups to except those thicker pins. i also had to replace the body already. it shattered in multible peices, so go light on it or do the spackle mesh and shoe goo mod. or just buy an mcd or fg body. i have been keeping a good eye on my drive gears. the c-d gears have a tight mesh(2-25t) and couse it to get hot and melt. some have reported them lasting 10 minutes. mine are in poor condition and wont make it past the 4th tank. you can get the mcd gears wich are better quality or go with the steel gears wich will set you back $70. i removed the stock servos. the only thing i can say is they move those big wheels just fine while on the carpet. and the steering servo is very loud. i was suprised that it comes with a decant failsafe unit wich is in the radio box. im useing that with a pico kill switch for extra safety.. WHEELS. the wheel nuts slide off very easy. even if you crank down on them. i used red loc-tite and they still come off, hpi wheel nuts will fit and so will cat-5.. make sure you keep an eye on them. those big wheels will round off the hex in just a few minutes. and thats it. i didnt want to go with aluminum suspension, but i thought it was a must as those tires are just too big to handle my driving style.

I got the ramtech steel gears this week...what a difference it makes to the drivetrain smoothness, the tightness of the plastic ones has gone so should free up a bit of horse power.

I've got that oneills kit in my mt, I threw in the stuffed crank too for good measure and it makes a big difference over the stock mill...heaps of power to get those big tires spinning.

A few other things you should do before you run is green loctite all the dogbone pins, I lost one last weekend in the front centre shaft, they seem tight...i couldn't get them out.. but they work loose after a bit of running. Also I lost a wheel hub pin (came off a decent size jump and landed on 3 wheels:rolleyes: ) so a good fix is to grind flat spots on them all so the retaining screws get a good hold.

Boiling the plastic arms and wheel hubs/uprights has worked for a few forum members here, it anneals the plastic and makes it more durable. get a big pan of water boiling, chuck the parts in turn off the heat and cover...when the waters cold they're done.

One other thing to watch is the steering servo, I munched that last week too, stripped the plastic transfer gear inside..easy fix to get running again...just rotated it 180 degrees but you can only do it once. I got an extra steering set this week and ordered 2 5745's to dual servo the steering.

The rampage needs a few mods like anything else but parts are cheap enough. Once you're done you'll have a tough basher that you can thrash
