I just wanted to let people know my experiece so fare with my Rampage XSC. To give you some history I currently have in my stable a HPI Baja 5B, 5 savages (XL down to the old school .25's), Losi LST, several 10th scale cars, and some ofna/jammin cars. I would hope the I have an ok idea of what abuse these cars can take.
I recieved my Rampage XSC yesterday and was quite impressed at first site. This very soon after changed. I finaly completed my first tank of gas on the machine and had more time working on it then driving it. Here is what I managed to break durring the first tank of gas:
Body broke in half
front body mount
front and rear bumpers
front left a-arm
front hinge pin
at this rate I'll be averaging about $100 or more in parts per tank of gas. Keep in mind this was driving very very very very mild in comparison to what I do with the savages, and Baja. I don't think the rampage was every meant to see dirt.
Here are a few things I would recommend for newer models
Plastic: I've never seen anything so brittle in my life. This goes for bodies to a-arms. Its like you are using acrylic instead of polycarbonate on the body, and I have no idea what nylon crap that is being used on the a-arms.
Hinge pins: If you are going to turn down the center sections of the hinge pins to save weight do so with a higher grade of steel or at least harden the steel after. It bends way too easy.
Wheel nuts: run a sereted or a tighter nyloc nut I lost 3 wheels during the 1st tank
Shocks: tighten the shaft bushings. There is over 1/2" of side to side play at the end of the shock shaft
Shock towers: have more height settings. the car only has about 2" of clearance, and with the chassi hitting the ground you still have over 1/2" of stroke left in the shock.
sell the car in kit form. This way you at least know the car was assembled right.
The only thing that I think china has nailed so fare is the engine. I've burned up, modded, and used several zenoah ORC's and Cy's and this china engine seems to be holding its own with them.
My brother also purchased an XSC at the same time as me and all his problems would require another post.
anyways thanks all for reading just wanted to share my luck so fare with the Rampage line up. I run a cnc shop so I'll start showing some pics as I get the upgraded parts off the machine.
