Volcano problem

I am new here just bought my son a valcano for his birthday ran good first day batteries died so i had bought extra ones nimh 7.2v 3000 now the truck wont go in reverse does anyone no whats wrong? We only got to drive once

If I were to bet, he turned one of the knobs on the controller. Hold it in the air and turn the knob that says F/R.
