Okay so I am waiting for the MT to show up and have time to think about stuff. I've been looking at 1/4 scale servo. Well the popular lease expensive ones.

The chart below is just some of the steering servos available for 1/4th - 1/5th scale. For throttle/brake servo comparison ServoCity has a nice display for looking at the specs for Futaba and HiTech servos. The links below.

Futaba:

HiTech:

Updated Chart: Found there is a metal gear upgrade that can be done to the 805bb servo. Added the HS-805MG server, and the 5805MG server. Added a couple more I missed.

On the price for the SFL-10MG that is an ebay price. I searched a couple places and googled the SFL-10MG and only found it for sale on ebay.

The prices vary from place to place. DDM, LSRC, Servo City, and Ebay.

Spec are those given for 6v.

Some Rampage owners seem to come over from the Baja looking for that 4 wheel drive. The HPI servos also seem to be a fairly regular item on ebay (chop shops) for around 30.00. I was mixed up by the different ones out there. This is a quick run down of the SFL-10 you might come across.

HPI SFL-10 Series Servos:

From what I've found out the SFL-10 servo comes in three different configurations (SFLK-10, SFL-10MG, and SFL-10MG2) for gears but the specs for all three are the same.

The SFL-10 came with the RTR 5b. Don't know if is still does. Couldn't find many out there. It has all plastic gears in it. I only get four pictures so I am leaving that one off. Link to the plastic gears here:

The SFL-10MG come with the 5b SS Kit and has these gears pictured below installed. It also is the most common one that I have seen as far a 1/5th scale servos in ebay listings.

The SFL-10MG2 comes with the HPI 5T and included a metal servo arm. These are the gears in it and the arm that is included.

To upgrade the SFL-10 to the MG2 gears you need to order this gear set (pictured above) - currently listed for $40.00

To upgrade the SFL-10MG to the MG2 gears you only need the final gear. The upgrade includes the metal arm also.

This is the link to the parts gears at DDM. It's listed for $24.00

I didn't see any of the parts listed above at RampageHopups so I put links to DDM. If they were there and I missed them I will change the links to Robs shop instead. Prefered method I would assume.

I made a quick reference chart for the specs on the different servos on 6v. I broke the chart up by Analog/Digital then by type of gear it came with. The Hitech and Futaba low end servos indicate all nylon gears. The SFL-10MG comes with partial metal gear as indicated above. Then the HiTech 5745MG Analog with all metal gears. All of the digital servos I put in the chart contain all metal gears. I don’t know if the gears in the 805bb or S3306 can be upgraded to all metal. The SFL10s upgrades were listed at DDM and easy to find.

Found some more info on servos since I made this. Have edited the thread to reflect the additional info I came across. Found that there is a all metal gear upgrade available for the 805bb, and that there is a metal gear version of called the 805MG servo and a digital metal geared version the 5805MG. THose were found at Large Scale RC.

Quick Run down on the three different Hitech HS-805 servos I found.

I have only been running the 5b since spring. Some hard bashing and for me I have only had a servo horn strip on the SFL-10MG in my Baja. Other may have different experience with the HPI servos or HiTech The servo world is seperated just like our country is. Ford or Chevy and that were the loyalty lies. I'm a Hitech guy since my first upgrade to a 645MG on the Stampede. But I have to look at all my options. I already had one spare SFL-10 so picked up one more for the Rampage that is in the mail Now looking at my options is how I ended up with this thread.

Shoot! I named the thread wrong. Server instead of Servo. Guess what I do for a living? Anyways is there anyway to change the title. The reason I created the chart and thread was if someone searched with servo comparison or spec they could see some specs all in one place. I doubt anyone will be looking for "Dell Server Comparison" here.
