Brand new out of box XT will not run

My first fifth scale was a Redcar Rampage XR. And out of the box, the engine NEVER started. I sent the engine back to Redcat racing. They sent it back, as fixed. Still it never started. I took it to a two-stroke "expert" at my local hobby shop. He called me, eventually, told me he got it...

    New rampage mt

To ensure it's not your throttle linkage set in such a way that advances the speed of the engine, try this: Disconnect the throttle linkage to the servo, then start the engine. If it idles well, then you'll know the problem was your throttle linkage.

My RedCat XB is a piece of junk.

DON'T JUNK IT YET, MY BROTHER. The problem is quite fixable. You'll have to now learn to take your vehicle apart, eventually. So why not start now. Before I continue, you need to be aware that part of the 5th scale rc fun is becoming your own mechanic through troubleshooting. So, let's get down...

My steering and throttle are glitchy

I had this problem with my Redcat Redcat Rampage. The problem turned out to having been a loose spark plug. After I tightened it, the problem stopped. I also had terrible glitching with a Rovan Buggy I have, and the problem was wires in the receiver box coming into conflict with each other. The...

    Been sitting wont start

No. Any rc engine spark Plugs will work.

    Been sitting wont start

Try this: #1: Close the High and Low speed needles right down, by turning them each, clockwise; then resetting them to factory setting: 1 and 1/2 out on the High Speed Needle, and 1 and 1/4 out on the Low Speed Needle. Then prime the bulb and try starting engine. If it doesn't start, go to...

just how much can the XR handle?

The Redcat Rampage XR was my first 5th scale. I've had it a long time until I recently got me a Rovan Baja 5b buggy. As such, I can answer your XR questions. I bought it because I wanted a rally car with some on-road capabilities. It didn't do very well on-road because of that huge, heavy body...

    Should I threadlock wheelnuts?

Using threadlock on your wheelnuts is not necessary, though some people do. I use a ratcheting wheelnut wrench (and not those little palm units that come in RTR units) to tighten my wheelnuts. I have never lost a loose wheelnut. (I do keep a set of extra wheelnuts in my tool box. Everyone should.)

    WORN OUT CLUTCH BELLS SUCK!

When you're having too much fun running you fifth-scale gas truck/car hard, clutch shoes wear out down to the metal. When they do and you're unaware of it, the bare metal of the worn-down shoes begins to grind down the area in the clutch bell where it makes abrasive contact. From then on, it's...

MY REDCAT RAMPAGE XR AS VINTAGE RACE CAR

I am a rabid fan of vintage race cars. Always wanted such an rc body for my Redcat Rampage XR, gas car. Couldn't find one anywhere, so I bought a sheet of aluminum, a rivet gun and some rivets, and made one.

    Kill Switch problems

Just take the engine cover off, or expose whatever part of the engine you suspect the problem emanates. In the end, it may or may not have anything to do with your killswitch

just revs up won’t move after engine replacement

Maybe it's not revving high enough to engage the clutch bell. Fix suggestion #1: Increase the idle speed and lean-out the high-end needle by turning it clockwise by small increments. Check to ensure the clutch is okay--that a spring is not broken. Replace clutch if necessary. Check to ensure...

There you go! Happy for you, my brother.

    Wont Start

Billbo... it's frightening that everything that's happening to you happened to me--and I'm speaking of a brand new redcat rampage XR. Hmmm. If after buying a new spark plug it still doesn't fire, maybe you can take it to a local hobby shop if there's one nearby. What about the cap of your gas...

    Wont Start

What about your carb settings? Did you close the low-end needle right down, turning clockwise, and then opened it one full turn and one-quarter; and did the same with the high end needle and reopened it one and one-half turns? Try that and see if it will start. If it doesn't, try turning the...

Lol. I hope not, my brother.

    Wont Start

My first fifth-scale rc vehicle was a gas-powered Redcat Rampage XR. Out of the box, it wouldn't start. I took it to a local hobby shop and the engine guy there couldn't fix it. I mailed it back to Redcat Racing; they said they fixed it. When I got it back, it still won't start. In the end I...

    BURNED OUT DIFF MOUNT BEARINGS?

Thanks, Phil. Will look into that. I didn't consider the center diff mount since it held up, and continues to hold up well. But I'll look into it. Why not?

    BURNED OUT DIFF MOUNT BEARINGS?

If you run your Rampage vehicle as hard as I do, this is a timely tip for you before the bearings melt in the plastic sockets of the stock plastic DIFF MOUNT. To avoid a meltdown, simply replace the stock plastic diff mount with the REDCAT RACING ALUMINUM DIFF MOUNT SET BLUE 054004B. You'll be...
