Default New Rampage Owner

Hi Everyone first post here..

Unboxed my RMT Friday and 10 min into the breakin tank the truck quit. Lucky for me and thanks to all of you posting your advice here I opted for a Spktrum DSX3S and a killer bee v1. A fire started in the on off switch and burnt up the power cables going to the battery and the reciever. When the reciever quit the kill switch stopped the motor otherwise I probably would have had my first run away 10 min into my first tank. I called redcat and they asked I box up all the components and send to them. I overnighted them because I am hoping this will be resolved this week and I can take the truck on vacation (where there is an RC park AND a BMX track SWEET!!)

Anyhow has this ever happened to anyone? I had everything connected for a solid 10 min on the bench configuring the radio and setting up the failsafe and kill switch to work together. No issues there. Also, has anyone ever had to get parts evaluated and replaced by Redcat? I am wondering what kind of turn around time I will have to deal with I have three boys the teave a puddle of drool when ever they walk by the kit (well four if you include me)

Just wanted to post my experience and say hi. If there are any other fifth scalers in South Dakota hit me up!!

Thanks,

Mike

rob64n had this happen about 2 weeks ago it was the 5 cell battery pack in his case the wiring inside the srink warp a wire was in between 2 of the cells and was pinched and shorted out redcat the parts are in the mail now. he also had spektrum receiver new out of the box he hooked up all the servos receiver and battery and seen both servos smoking the receiver caused the servos to burn up. rob (forum owner) jumps right on helping everbody as fast as he can

Smile Parts are on the way :)

Spoke to Chris @ Redcat. They got my parts today and they were too far gone to pinpoint the root cause of the issue. The power cables to and from the power switch were completely destroyed. The battery had a hole burned in it and the reciever looke like someone burnt some brownies. I am happy to say replacements are on the way no questiosn asked and should arrive in time for me to take the truck on vacation.

Thanks all

Mike

Default Thanks Rob

Thanks Rob.

Thanks to all really who post here. My HPI filter setup is on the way as well this week. As a 1.5th newbie I really appreciate everyones williness to share their experiences and setups. There are several issues I know I will avoid simply because I have read a ton of threads here. As for my Rampage, I forgot to ask them if there is anything they can do about the reciever it ate because of this incident. I will give them a call again tomorrow and see about it. I had heard from an earlier post you had a similar issue? How much damage did it cause? I know my reciever is shot I am hoping i can salvage my kill swith.

i'm not sure about the receiver since mine was not replaced but yes it would have been nice, but i'm not sure i want another spectrum. i'll probably have to buy another receiver just so i can sell my entire radio gear.

Thanks for all the welcomes I really like my RMT. I wont go back to 1/8th scale. Got replacement parts yesterday from Redcat after the fire in the electronics box. Installed them today and attempted to finish the breakin tank. The truck really is solid. Having moved up from 1/8 scale it is a ton of fun to drive even just puttering around in the street at 50% throttle. Unfortunately, both of the steering servos died with in 3 min of each other. I thought for sure I screwed up and did something wrong but when i hit my LHS for replacements we pulled it apart and 2 chips had fallen off the circuit board in the servo. Called Redcat again, and to their credit replacements were sent out this afternoon. So while i was @ my LHS I ordered up some hi-techs
